Committee Member Social Cruising
Ray Russell
My family moved from Glasgow to Reading in the early seventies, where I joined the Sea Scouts and was introduced to dinghy sailing on the Thames. Dinghies turned out to be a gateway to other wind sports later in life, like windsurfing, kite buggying and kite surfing. During those years I also owned an Enterprise and a Wayfarer.
Later, after a few sailing trips with the Tall Ships Youth Trust as voyage crew, I did Competent Crew in 2021. I joined HOEOCA that year and had my first cruise in the Solent. Since then I've done both Day and Coastal skipper practical. I've been on the Skipper Development Course run by Keith Harding, and was a recipient of the Jim Race Memorial Bursary.
