White Mistral, crewed by HOEOCA members Alistair Kingham and Paul Russell along with Luke Russell, Hugh Rashleigh and skippered by owner David Ardron, had a fantastic weekend away competing in the RTI 2021 event.
Whilst early morning weather was grey, overcast and very light winds, as per the forecast winds soon became ideal for sailing conditions allowing Misty at one point to be carrying Mizzen, Mizzen Staysail, Main and spinnaker sails all at the same time. For a heavy boat built in the mid 80's we put distance on many lighter and seemingly faster boats in our class and even encroached into higher class boat company as we secured 284th place from nearly 1200 yachts competing. This was the best result Misty has delivered as again, at nearly 9 tonnes she does need decent wind to get her going! The crews ability to set and sail with 4 different sails at one time was a great excitement...... to cap it all we arrived back into Cowes at 6pm allowing ample time for an onboard BBQ before settling down with a good bottle of red to watch the football...... so two good results on the day!!! As usual, although not on an official HOEOCA boat, I feel that Alistair and I maintained the HOEOCA spirit, and we thank Sea Myth and her crew for the rousing cheer we received on return to Cowes mooring.
